At Lakes Creek State School we have 2 ESL teachers. These teachers support the children in the school who do not have English as their first language. The majority of our ESL students are from Vietnam but we also have other children in the school who were not born in Australia. One of these teachers works here three days a week while the other works here 2 days per week.
These teachers withdraw the non-English speaking children to help them to develop their speaking, listening, comprehending, reading and writing skills. We also have a full time bi-lingual teacher aide who supports the learning and teaching of English.
Education Adjustment Program Education Queensland recognises that students with disabilities are a part of all school communities. At Lakes Creek State School we receive staffing and funding to support children with disabilities. Typically the support is to help these students to achieve in their school life by making adjustments to the teaching programs and the learning strategies. For a student to receive additional support, adjustments or an exemption for any aspect of school life a formal diagnosis from a Psychiatrist, Guidance Officer or Speech Pathologist is mandatory.
